Then there’s the roar.
The sudden swell
of pent up hope
spilling out onto the street,
filling the cracked pavement,
the way hydrants crack open
on the Fourth of July, flashes
of orange and blue
crowd the sidewalk
and everywhere
a jumble of limbs,
and fists held high,
beating on car hoods,
and filling the night sky,
together like a choir,
chanting, then praying:
Let’s Go Knicks!
Knicks in Five!
