βI'm hoping to be astonished tomorrow
by I don't know what.β

FIELD NOTES #2
While everyone marvels
at the moon blocking the sun
I'll be watching and waiting
for sunriseβ
it's easy to overlook
what most take for common.
πππ
I'll admit as a boy I believed
that eclipses and earthquakes were healds
of the end,
overlooking the fact that evertime
a town goes up a forest comes down,
that mole hills and ant hills, beachheads and rivers
are daily subject to a judgment
all their ownβand I, human as I am,
can't conceive of a world without
my existence.
πππ
I like to imagine myself a simple man,
a sucker for early mornings:
over-easy eggs,
black, bitter coffee
and the comfort of pipe smoke.
Of course I say this with a
wallet full of credit card debt
and a penchant for pretty things
no one really needs.
