DIPLOMACY

There is the promise of spring:
newbuds fat with potential.
The cool, crisp morning air.
The sun, warm, cupping your face.
Morning dew, dancing,
resting in your hair.

Then all this talk of peace.
The promise it will end,
and bombs 	blooming,
the moonlit desert
bathed in red	,
while April showers
fill empty craters—
pools to bathe the dead.
